DAR hands over Php1.4-M BUB projects in North Cotabato

piaKIDAPAWAN CITY, North Cotabato,  Apr. 19 (PIA) -- Some Php1.4 million worth of infrastructure projects  were   completed recently in Aleosan town, this  province, an official of the Department of Agrarian Reform announced.

Director III Marion Abella  of DAR North Cotabato  said these projects were  carried  out under the national government’s  Bottom-up Budgeting program.

With a combined total cost of Php1,467,472.59k these  development projects  include  construction of a daycare center  in Barangay Dualing and a mini-warehouse with solar dryer for Barangay New Leon.

“The projects were implemented to reduce poverty and enhance the delivery of basic services at the barangay level, especially in agrarian reform areas in North Cotabato,” Abella said.

The New Leon Multi-Purpose Cooperative and the Dualing Solar Power Association proposed said projects to the Local Poverty Reduction Action Team (LPRAT).

In response, Aleosan Mayor Vicente Suropia thanked DAR for  going through with the  projects  even in the midst of a long drought that affected the farmers in the municipality.

“We are very happy that these facilities are already available when the rainy season comes. Even we are stricken by El Niño Phenomenon, I can still see the happy faces of the recipients/farmers as they received these projects,” Suropia said.

Suropia also lauded the participation of the civil society organizations for prioritizing and monitoring the implementation of the projects in their respective barangays.

With  the  establishment of a monitoring and evaluation  team, the local  chief executive  assured  DAR officials  that the projects will be sustained.

Meanwhile, New Leon Multi-Purpose Cooperative Chairman Gil Pastolero said the project will not only benefit the people of the barangay but also their neighboring barangays.

“The mini-warehouse with solar dryer will be a big help to the cooperative’s income generating activity because the services are also open to other barangays. As the chairman, I will ensure the sustainability of the project that you have entrusted to us,” Pastolero said.

Ranulfo Estavilla, BUB point person, said the LGU of Aleosan has also shared 10% of the total project cost as counterpart.

DAR implements the BUB projects in 5 municipalities in North Cotabato which include Aleosan, Arakan, Antipas, Kabacan, and Pres. Roxas.  (ROrejudos-DAR North Cotabato/DEDoguiles-PIA 12)
