P3.1 million worth abaca production facilities turned-over to South Cotabato farmers

piaKORONADAL CITY, Oct. 2 -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently turned over  P3.1-million worth abaca production facilities  to the Proper Ned Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries’ Cooperative (PNARBC) in Brgy. Ned, Lake Sebu,  South Cotabato.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Roldan H. Ali said the three facilities consisting of a storage building, storage warehouse and greenhouse dryer were implemented under the Mindanao Sustainable Agrarian and Agriculture Development (MinSAAD) Project.

Ali said that abaca processing machineries were also turned over to the beneficiaries consisting of stripping machines, baling machine, back strap looms, heavy duty weighing scales, and moisture testers for the improvement of abaca production and processing in the area.

“This is a momentous event as this is the first project under MinSAAD that was turned over by DAR South Cotabato,” Ali said.

MiinSAAD Project Manager Eduardo E. Suaybaguio commended DAR South Cotabato for the successful implementation of the project and hopes to have more project turnovers like this  in the future.

Likewise, Barangay Captain Jerry Nobleta expressed his gratitude to DAR and the MinSAAD project for implementing the project in the area.

“This will bring more development in Ned that will surely help alleviate poverty by providing jobs and a higher income to the beneficiaries,” added Nobleta.

The MinSAAD project, which is being implemented in selected settlement areas in Mindanao,  is a joint undertaking  by the Philippine Government, through DAR, and in cooperation with the Japan International Coordination Authority (JICA).

The project is focused on agricultural development and support services such as irrigation, rural roads and bridges, rural water supply, marketing and related aspects; effective governance and social protection; and others that would support the objective of alleviating poverty in marginalized target areas.
