Ka Paeng in solidarity with the employees of NFA

piaQUEZON CITY, Aug. 4  — Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano graced the 89th National Board Conference of the National Food Authority Employees Association (NFAEA) to be in unity with them in their efforts to stabilize prices and supply of rice and corn while increasing the income of farmers.

The NFAEA is currently fighting to stop the scheme of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and some powerful groups in the House of Representatives to privatize the NFA and to stop the removal of state support for farmers and consumers.

In his solidarity message, Secretary Mariano said that he is one with the NFAEA’s call for unity towards a meaningful change for the country, especially for the farmers’ and peasants’ welfare.

“As DAR Secretary, like you, I will also fight for farmers’ rights. I am now working on the passing of the bill on genuine agrarian reform. This bill will bring about meaningful and rightful change for our farmers,” Mariano said.

Mariano is currently in Davao to meet with farmers there and hear their issues and concerns. He will then proceed to North Cotabato to turn over a rubber processing plant to an agrarian reform beneficiary organization there. (DAR)
