DAR begins consultations on genuine agrarian reform program

piaSTA. ROSA CITY, Laguna (PIA) – The Department of Agrarian Reform rolled out a series of consultation conference with DAR officials and employees in a bid to introduce the thrust of Secretary Rafael Mariano who has been advocating for a genuine agrarian reform program.

The consultation was piloted in Calabarzon region last Tuesday, August 16 with more than 100 personnel from the five Calabarzon provinces in attendance.

Director Erlinda Manluctao, chief of DAR’s Public Assistance and Media Relations Service, said the conference in Laguna paved the way for a series of consultations around the country with farmers’ groups, peoples’ and non-government organizations including the DAR community.

“Sec. Mariano will be at the center of these consultations because he wants people on the ground to know his genuine agrarian reform agenda,” she said.

Manluctao said DAR launched a regular media briefing billed Kapihan with Ka Paeng at its central office last week which marked the beginning of a nationwide consultation with media groups.

She said DAR wants to open avenues to push a genuine agrarian reform thrust under Mariano, a peasant leader who is no stranger to farmers' cause.

The consultations with DAR officials and employees began in Calabarzon region with Laguna as DAR's first stop.

Mariano is expected to go around all regions nationwide to open discussions with groups on the ground - an indication of his open-door policy and better days ahead for farmers.

Symbolically, the long-time leader of the Kilusang Magbubikid ng Pilipinas opened the DAR central office gates to farmers last July 5, days after President Duterte began his term. (MCA-PIA Laguna)
