DAR is open to farmers - Sec. Mariano

piaNAVAL, Biliran, November 5 (PIA) – Farmer-beneficiaries of the agrarian reform department find bright hope and better future on the land they owned and tilled with no less than the top official of the department saying their agency is open to them.

“DAR is open to farmers,” Secretary Rafael V. Mariano told reporters in a press conference with media after he graced the turn-over and inauguration of a post harvest facility in Barangay Balaquid, Cabucgayan, Biliran, Saturday, November 5.

Secretary Mariano led the ceremonial ribbon-cutting and inauguration of P 7, 170,657 worth Balaquid Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARB) Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MPC) post-harvest facility.

The post-harvest facility that can accommodate 3,500 cavans of rice harvest has 105 square meters warehouse, 49 square meters office space and 492 square meters solar dryer.

Mariano said that when he assumed the top post of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) under President Rodrigo Roa Duterte (PRRD), he immediately made an open door policy to farmer-beneficiaries in the country.

“I heartily welcomed farmer-beneficiaries even those only wearing slippers in my office,” Mariano who fought hard in street rallies and in the hall of Congress for the welfare and benefits of agrarian reform farmers told media.

This is the only time in the DAR history that the office of the topmost official of the agency is now open to farmer-beneficiaries, he further said.

He added that he wanted to hear the voices of the small agrarian reform farmers voicing out their complaints, redress and grievances to the government which he even embraced them to show sincerity in addressing their plight.

The DAR chief recounted that he already conducted 60 dialogues with agrarian reform farmers and has made ten official visits to different places with agrarian reform communities in the country since he started serving as head of the department.(ajc/rvictoria/PIA Biliran)
