Bridge to benefit farmers in Nueva Vizcaya
VILLAVERDE, NUEVA VIZCAYA: A 40-meter bridge worth P8.4 million has been completed and turned over to the local government here, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) said.
DAR Secretary John Castriciones said the bridge would help ease the transportation of farm-produced products for agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) here. He said the bridge in Barangay Ibung was funded through the "Tulay ng Pangulo para sa Kaunlarang Pang-Agraryo" project.
The steel bridge with a length of 40.20 meters and width of seven meters will benefit 4,300 ARBs as well as the other residents in the area, Castriciones said.
He said the DAR bridge project was a joint undertaking of the Department of Public Works and Highways, the provincial government of Nueva Vizcaya and the local government of Villaverde.
"The bridge will link our farmers to commercial areas, where they can sell their produce," Castriciones said.
He said the DAR is adopting the whole-of-nation approach by bringing projects and services closer to the communities to empower the farmers.
"Our goal is to allow our farmers to become more active participants in the local economy, and ultimately, to expand the reach and development of the country's agriculture industry," Castriciones said.
Dindi Tan, DAR-Nueva Vizcaya Agrarian Reform Program officer, said the bridge connecting Barangays Ibung and Caldaan in this town will benefit farmers and residents in transporting their products to the market centers.
"The bridge will also improve the transportation and mobility in the locality for the commuting public. People will no longer have to cross the stony and muddy river," Tan said.
