Land distribution in Ilocos region near completion

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Region 1 has distributed a total of 138,052 hectares of agricultural lands to 115,544 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) from 1972 to June 2018 and provided them with Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOAs).

DAR Regional Director Judita Tungol reported this during the department’s 2018 performance review and planning session held in Tagaytay City.

“Of the land acquisition and distribution (LAD) scope of 139, 284 hectares in Ilocos region, DAR has distributed 138,052 hectares of agricultural to ARBs in this Region. This means, there are still 1,232 hectares left for distribution to farmer-beneficiaries in the next few years,” said Tungol.

“The good news is that, after conducting a cleansing and reconciliation with the department’s Bureau of Land Tenure Improvement (BLTI), the balance of 1,232 hectares was further reduced to 964 hectares,” explains Tungol.

However, the directive of President Duterte to cover private and public agricultural lands for distribution to landless farmers, Tungol said she expects more hectarage will be added to the remaining 964 hectares.

At present, DAR-Ilocos is focusing on the provision of various support services to help ARBs increase their farm production and household income.

“Helping our farmers does not stop after land distribution. We continue to provide farmers with support services such as farm machineries, post-harvest facilities, communal irrigation facilities, farm-to-market roads and numerous trainings on entrepreneurship to uplift their economic lives,” Tungol said.

The DAR’s performance review and planning session is currently being conducted from July 24-27, to resolve and address problems in implementing agrarian reform.
