DAR strengthens agrarian reform cooperatives

Eight agrarian reform beneficiaries’ organizations (ARBOs) were strengthened by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) by immersing them in various trainings on cooperative management, according to a DAR official here in DAR-ARMM.

Some 3,000 farmer-members and non-members of ARBOs from Basilan and Sulu were trained in courses such as policy development, strategic planning, roles and responsibilities of ARBs and organizational leadership.

This was reported by DAR-ARMM Director Rebeca Bautista during the department’s 2018 mid-year performance review and planning session held in Tagaytay City.

Bautista said the farmers were also trained on courses on product development, business management and marketing to help them sustain their agri-ventures.

“These trainings were conducted to strengthen and capacitate agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) towards operating successful agri-enterprises,” Bautista added.

According to Baustista, the trainings helped in recruiting new ARBO members.

“Our trainings led to the recruitment of 727 ARBs who in turn became new members of the ARBOs.

The participants were very appreciative of the knowledge imparted to them, especially now that they have joined the ARBOs to help speed up and facilitate the implementation of agrarian reform-related projects/businesses/services in their areas as ARBO members,” Bautista said.

The DAR’s performance review and planning session was conducted to resolve and address problems in implementing agrarian reform.
