DAR Davao de Oro turns-over Php1.3-M worth of farm machinery to Mawab farmers

NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro – Despite the challenges brought about by the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic and in recognizing farmers as front liners to ensuring food security in the country, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Provincial Office of Davao de Oro turned over a P1.3-million worth of farm tractor to Dalisay Multi-Purpose Cooperative (DMPC) on June 1, 2020 at the DAR Provincial Office.

“Dako kayo ni na tabang sa amo isip mga gagmay na mga mag-uuma. Makatabang pod ni sa among mga silingan na barangay. Salamat kayo sa DAR (We are thankful to the DAR for extending this assistance to us. This is a big boost for small scale farmers like us, and this can also help our adjacent barangays.),” said Carmelo Seravillo, Chairperson of DMPC.

DMPC, with its 85 members, are among the beneficiaries of Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project (CRFPSP) of the DAR, which basically aims to mechanize farm production system to increase the yield and build the resiliency of the farmers in Agrarian Reform Areas (ARAs).

Cherlita Sacayan, Manager of DMPC, cited that the use of this machinery would help them incur lesser production cost, thereby increase in their income.

The ceremony was spearheaded by Regional Director Joseph H. Orilla, Assistant Regional Director for Operations Venchito S. Mandap and Assistant Regional Director for Administration Claudio A. Ybañez, together with PARPO II Melchor B. Jamora, OIC-PARPO I Ellordo C. Gualberto and OIC-CARPO Nancy S. Ramos of the Program Beneficiary Development Division.

In his message, RD Orilla said that this machinery would be of great help to farmers who are facing the challenge of maintaining food security during this time of public health crisis.

“We hope that this farm equipment given to you will create an income generating activity for your cooperative to ensure sustainable livelihood to its members”, RD Orilla said to the farmers.

Meanwhile, PARPO II Jamora bared that despite some difficulties brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the DAR remains committed in looking after the welfare of the farmer-beneficiaries and will find all available means to ensure that the Farm Machinery and Equipment (FME) will be turned over and delivered to the beneficiary-recipients.

The signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and Trust Agreement were also among the highlights of the day. (PIO-Davao de Oro)
