NEW TRACTOR. Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Andre Atega (4th from left) of the Department of Agrarian Reform - Agusan del Norte leads the turnover of a brand-new farm tractor to the Avanceña Beneficiaries and Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative, through its chairman Sergio Baguhin (2nd from right), in Butuan City. The four-wheel-drive power-35 HP tractor, with attachments that include a rotary tiller and trailer, is worth PHP1.2 million.

A total of one-hundred five (105) farmer-members of Avanceña Beneficiaries and Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ABFMPC) from barangay Sanghan, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte would now be able to improve their farming activities, even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, as they received from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) a farm tractor worth P1.2-million.

DAR Agusan del Norte provincial agrarian reform program officer II Andre Atega said the DAR turned over the farm equipment to the ABFMPC, a DAR-assisted agrarian reform beneficiaries organization (ARBO), considered as one of the successful cooperatives in the area.

Artega said the provision of the equipment is part of the DAR’s project under the Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project (CRFPSP).

“The CRFPSP is the DAR’s response to the risks of climate change to agrarian reform communities (ARCs) and complies with the provisions of Republic Act 9729 or the Climate Change Act,” Artega said

Interventions for the agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) under the project, include trainings for farmers’ adaptation and mitigation practices, and the provision of farm equipment and machinery. These interventions aim to develop farmers’ agricultural productivity to raise their income and to build their resiliency in maneuvering climate change risks.

ABFMPC Chair Sergio Baguhin proudly noted that the equipment released to the cooperative is a four-wheeled-drive power-35 HP tractor with attachments that includes a rotary tiller and trailer.

“This will definitely help the cooperative, especially those members who are engaged in palay production. The turn over of the farm tractor is very timely since the farmers are already experiencing the economic effects of Covid-19 pandemic with their respective families,” Baguhin said.

Avancena Beneficiaries Farmers Multi Purpise Cooperative (ABFMPC) receives the farm tractor worth P1.2-million from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) through the agency’s Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project (CRFPSP).

Baguhin added that close coordination of the cooperative members with the DAR officials and staff to acquire farm equipment paved the way for their appeal to become a reality.

ABFMPC Vice Chair Constancio Dalanon said that the equipment will benefit not only the ARB and non-ARB members of the cooperative but also the neighboring households living outside the ARC.

Both officers of the cooperative expressed gratitude to the DAR’s effort for the immediate release of the equipment, especially in this time of pandemic where the farmers are among the most vulnerable sectors who suffered terrible recession due to the Covid-19 crisis.

“The equipment is expected to enhance the members’ capacity during land preparation of palay and vegetables, transport and marketing of goods, thereby generate employment, and improve the farmers’ economic condition,” Dalanon said.

Established on April 17, 1992, the ABFMPC has a total of 105 members. Seventy (70) percent are engaged in palay farming and 30 percent in upland farming who are currently serving other barangays in the area through its programs, including the palay production loan, palay trading, rice mill, and the provision of farm production equipment and post-harvest facilities.
