Coop in Negros Occidental gets a greenhouse and solar-powered water system from DAR
The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has turned over to Mulawin Lanatan Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (MLFMPC) in Brgy. Poblacion 1, Sagay City, a P600,000.00 worth package of a greenhouse facility and a solar-powered water system with a reservoir to improve their yield in vegetable production.
Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO) II Teresita R. Mabunay said the facilities were provided under the Linking Small Holder Farmers to Market with Microfinance (LinkSFARMM) project of the DAR.
“The greenhouse and solar-powered water system would be able to provide the farmers with enough water supply and produce off-season and high-value crops for them to create more market opportunities and increase their income,” Mabunay said.
She disclosed that the facilities would help lessen their production expenses and percentage of crop mortality inside the greenhouse due to its temperature, moisture, heat, and weather control mechanism.
Mabunay said around 82 farmers would benefit from the project which would provide them with an improved and sustained livelihood through agro-enterprise development.
MLFMPC Chairman Edelido Calanza expressed his gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the DAR management for their continued support to its farmer-members.
“All the while, we at the cooperative were thinking that we will get the training of technology transfer from DAR. We are so happy and thankful that DAR not only provided us with the skills but has also awarded us this Php 600,000 worth of facilities,” MLFMPC Bookkeeper Marilyn Dieta said.
Dieta added that this project will help improve their livelihood and increase their households’ farming income”, Dieta added.
After the turn-over ceremony, the DAR-Negros Occidental awarded certificates of attendance for the thirty-five (35) farmers who completed and attended the Agri-credit and Microfinance training.
