Calbayog farmers receive farm equipment to boost agricultural production

Alfonso Catorce, DAR- Calbayog Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer turns over the various farm equipment to members of the Panoypoy farmers Association in Calbayog City.

CALBAYOG CITY, Samar – Farmer members of the Panoypoy Farmers Association (PFA) were happy to receive a set of farm equipment from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to boost their agricultural production.

“We would like to thank the DAR for listening to our concerns and for granting what they had promised us,” said Pedro Abajo, president of the PFA.

PFA is composed of 113 members, where 69 are agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs), involved in hog raising and organic vegetable production.

Alfonso Catorce, DAR-Calbayog provincial chief, said the distribution of the farm equipment was funded under the DAR’s Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support (CRFPS) project and is in line with the directive of Secretary Conrado Estrella III to provide modern equipment to the ARBs.

“These farm machines are exactly what the 113 farmer-members of the PFA need to help them in their livestock-raising and organic vegetable production,” Catorce said.

The farm equipment worth ₱260,250.00 consists of a hand tractor with rotavator, a water pump with suction and discharge hose, a grass cutter, and several garden tools.

The DAR’s CRFPS project is geared towards building resiliency for agrarian reform communities by providing them with modern equipment to increase their farm production, yield better income, and improve their lives.
