City of San Fernando, Pampanga. As a fitting celebration of the 35th year of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), the Department of Agrarian Reform in Central Luzon staged, once again, painting competitions (poster and mural) involving senior high school and college students.

Regional Director James Arsenio Ponce, CESO III, said that the Regional Management decided to include mural painting in this year’s edition of the contest to accommodate a larger field of creative students from state-run and private schools within Region III.

Prior to the competitions, a slogan composition contest was held to serve as inspiration and guidepost for the participants. The adjudged winner “Matatag na Kabuhayan at Masaganang Kinabukasan Handog ng Repormang Agraryo sa Magsasakang Benepisyaryo” was coined by grade 10 student John Paul Barela from Jose V. Yap National High School in Tarlac City.

From a roster of seven (7) participating schools representing the provinces of Central Luzon, the artwork created by Adrian Vacaro (grade 11, Balsik National High School in Bataan) was adjudged the winner. The Board of Judges also awarded the 2nd place winner to Clara Mayne Pineda (grade 11, Aurora National Science High School in Aurora) and the 3rd best to Pia Noreen Dionisio (grade 12, Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School in Bulacan).

For the mural painting competition, the Board of Judges unanimously chose the work of Jericho Lumasac (BS Electrical Engineering, Aurora State College of Technology) as the best painting which perfectly depicted this year’s theme. The 2nd best interpretation went to Anne Gwenevere Dionisio (Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bulacan State University) followed by Enjelaine Soriano’s work from Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology. Soriano is a BS Architecture student.

Assistant Regional Director Atty. Odgie Cayabyab was ecstatic as he profoundly thanked all participants, parents/guardians, coaches, the Board of Judges, and the region’s Information Officers for a well-organized and timely conduct of the competitions. (Albert Sapnu, RIO)
