A significant event took place in Cabisera 9-11 (Capogotan), City of Ilagan, Isabela on April 24, 2024, marking the turnover of the Solar Pump Irrigation Project.
The ceremony involved three (3) key government agencies: the Department of Agriculture (DA), the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR). The project, comprising five (5) solar pump irrigation systems, aimed to revolutionize local farming practices and improve livelihoods for IlagueƱo farmers.
The event was attended by officials from the NIA, including Engr. Raymundo B. Apil and Engr. Orlando R. Espejo, DAR Regional Director Primo C. Lara and other DAR officials, City Councilor Jay Eveson C. Diaz, local government representatives, and farmer-beneficiaries. The collaboration among the agencies highlighted their commitment to sustainable agriculture and rural development in Isabela.
Rowell A. Salvador, President of Capogotan Farmers Association Inc., emphasized the need for modernizing irrigation to enhance productivity and food security. He praised the partnership between government agencies and local communities, noting its importance in uplifting rural economies and improving farmers’ quality of life.
The Capogotan Solar Pump Irrigation Project is expected to bring numerous benefits to 74 Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs), including increased irrigation efficiency, reduced dependency on traditional water sources, and lower operational costs. By utilizing solar energy, this initiative aligns with the government’s goals for renewable energy and sustainable agriculture.
Local farmers expressed gratitude and optimism, recognizing the project’s potential to transform their operations for their 40 hectares land. With reliable irrigation, they anticipate higher crop yields, expanded cultivation areas, and improved family incomes.
The successful implementation of this project underscored the government’s commitment to supporting agriculture and rural development, demonstrating the power of collaboration and innovation in overcoming farming challenges.
