Catanduanes farmers receive farm tools from DAR

The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Catanduanes turned over 592,500 worth of specialized farm equipment to some 1,111 farmers belonging to three agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations (ARBOs) to help them in farming and boost their income.

In a turn-over and blessing ceremonies held at the Agrarian Information & Marketing Center at Datag, San Andres, Catanduanes, the DAR through the Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project (CRFPSP) gave 120 stripping device, 120 tuxying knife, 120 hole digger and bolo for abaca rehabilitation, processing and marketing to BisCab Multi-Purpose Coop (BMPC), Batong Paloway Agrarian Reform Multi-Purpose Coop (BAPARCO), and Hicming Farmers Association (HIFA).

“Catanduanes remains to be the top abaca-producing province not only in the Philippines but in the whole world,” Catanduanes chief Alexander T. Teves shared. “Paghag-ot or abaca stripping is one of the main sources of livelihood of farmers who devote their farms to abaca production which thrive mainly in these parts of the world. Different handicrafts are made out of the sturdy abaca strip,” he added.

Hence, the different ARBOs of the province are thankful for the farm equipment that would not only boost their production but ease up production efforts in a much shorter time.

Together with the Abaca Rehabilitation Projects of the DAR and other line-agencies, the trainings on handicraft-making and other product enhancement seminars, it is a foregone conclusion that these ARBOs will attain their goal of making a sustainable livelihood and steady income not only for their respective families but contribute greatly to the upliftment of the living condition of the community they belong to.

In attendance during the turn-over were the municipal and barangay LGU officials headed by Hon. Mayor Peter Cua who was represented by Hon. Vice-Mayor Salvador; the DTI Provincial Director; the DAR Catanduanes led by PARPO Alex Teves; the PARCCOM members, and the different recipient ARBOs. (Ellen L. Tatel, Information Officer)
