CARFA receives prize in simple rite

CATBALOGAN CITY – Cantongtong Agrarian Rice Farmers Association (CARFA) President, Efren Caballa, received on Tuesday morning in a simple ceremony the prize for best Grant-in-Aid (GIA) Science and Technology Project from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

DOST’s Science Research Specialists II Engr. Joseph Alberto Lledo and Emelyn Maglahus handed to Caballa the certificate of recognition and two checks in a simple rite at the DOST Provincial Office in this city.

Lledo disclosed that the two checks were for CARFA’s winning both at the provincial and regional level.

CARFA received ₱3,000 as the provincial winner and ₱5,000 as the regional winner, Lledo added.

On the same occasion, Department of Agrarian Reform Samar Provincial Office was likewise recognized for the relentless monitoring of projects, activities and coordination with stakeholders, which resulted to the improved productivity and sustainability of the said GIA project.

CARFA was a recipient of ₱250,000 financial assistance under DOST’s GIA program.

DOST-8, during its virtual celebration of the National Science and Technology Week early this month, declared CARFA’s operationalization of the common service facility for the production of pop rice as the region’s best GIA project. (GABRIEL MARK OCENAR) ###
