DAR MIMAROPA conducts health awareness program

With the tag line "Early detection can help you beat the disease before it's too late!", the Department of Agrarian Reform MIMAROPA Regional Office spearheaded a free screening test on breast and cervical cancer benefiting some 60 registered women employees on April 30, 2019 at DAR Central Office Compound, Diliman, Quezon City.

“The said activity is in line with the 2019 Gender and Development (GAD) Program of DAR MIMAROPA promoting gender equality and empowerment of women”, as emphasized by ARD Lilibeth G. Lee.

ARD Lee reiterated that the 2019 National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) stressed that women should be active drivers in bringing about positive changes, and that they should also reap from fruits of development efforts. This can be made possible by empowering women – enabling them to meaningfully engage with other development stakeholders.

CAO Josefina M. Lopez said that the activity helped increase the awareness of employees to prioritize their health because women empowerment also means to be physically fit to accomplish and perform well with their assigned tasks.

The one-day activity is in collaboration with the Philippine Cancer Society (PCS). Ms. Michelle Ventosa and Ms. Dory Arelito, the PCS representatives, administered the procedure in the PCS mobile bus equipped with medical facilities for the said screening.

PCS is a non-stock, non-profit organization primarily engaged in programs, projects and activities in the prevention and control of cancer. Its advocacies and programs are in cancer registry, education and information for prevention and early detection, patients’ services, hospice and palliative care. Registered since 1956, the PCS pioneered in such innovative programs as cancer registry, tobacco control, hospice care and patient navigation. ###
