DAR distributes land titles to 44 beneficiaries amid Covid 19

ANAHAWAN, Southern Leyte – Despite the continuous rise of the number of positive cases of the Novel Coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) cases in this province, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has continued distributing land titles to landless farmers.

Southern Leyte provincial agrarian reform program officer Geronimo Peque said the DAR distributed to 44 farmer-beneficiaries Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOAs), covering 66.38 hectares, which are spread over Barangays Cogon, Mahalo, Amagusan and Tagup-on, all in Anahawan town.

Southern Leyte Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Geronimo Peque reminds the new CLOA-holders of their obligations -- the payment of the land amortization and the real property tax.

 

Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer (MARPO) Luzvimin Ruiz said the lands were previously owned by Mayo Hacienda, Felomino Gadiongco, and Dy Tian and Sons.

While Peque urged the recipients to make their newly acquired farmlots productive, he advised them to fulfill their obligations -- the payment of land amortization and real property tax.

Peque also encouraged them to join DAR-assisted agrarian reform beneficiaries' organizations (ARBOs) for them to avail themselves of government assistannce.

During the CLOA distribution, the DAR strictly implemented the minimum health protocol like subjecting everybody to the thermal scanner and requiring them to wear face masks and observe social distancing to protect everyone from the dreaded virus.

So far, Southern Leyte has already recorded 104 Covid-19 cases, with the town of Anahawan remaining COVID-free.
