DAR Pangasinan distributed 156 kilograms of african nightcrawler (ANC) to 498 farmer beneficiaries (FBs) across nine municipalities and one city on February. The earthworms, often used in vermiculture, are intended to provide the FBs a low-cost, sustainable extra source of income, in addition to having their own steady supply of vermicast.

The ANC is a follow-up to the seed capital assistance awarded to the FBs in 2020 under the DAR-DSWD Convergence Livelihood Assistance for ARB Project (CLAAP). Under said program, the same 498 farmers underwent technical capacity development training that equipped them with the skills to utilize the seeds, various types of fertilizers, and complete farm tool kits that were given to them.

The cost for CLAAP 2020 reached P12.45 million.

The office will regularly monitor the progress of the ANC recipients, in the same way the recipients of live goats under CLAAP 2019 are checked on. (ZA/ARPT) (Photos by MLPU/ARPOI & RNDV/COS)
