DAR Guimaras launch Buhay sa Gulay Project

Group 2 of Maabay ARBs Association unable to contain their excitement as they receive their respective project package and soon they will start their vegetable gardens.

DAR Guimaras turned over Php 63,000 worth of Gulay sa Buhay Project to Maabay ARBs Association (MARBA)  in the town of Sibunag last May 24, 2022, to benefit the farmer beneficiaries of said organization.

Buhay sa Gulay Project is a brainchild of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to promote alternative livelihood to the Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs) across the country. It does not merely end with the distribution of vegetable seeds, farm/garden tools and equipment but it intends to convert the beneficiaries into entrepreneurs as the association will take over the selling of the produce after harvest. It further aims that such economic cycle be repeated and sustained with the help of the development facilitator assigned in the area in the person of Ms. Mary Jean Tambalo, SarpTech.

Timely distribution of project package to the ARBs Association will help them not only to recover from the economic stresses brought by the pandemic, but cement the cooperation among its members to sustain Buhay sa Gulay in Sibunag.

The Buhay sa Gulay project package includes 5 water drums, 2 knapsack sprayers, 1 unit power sprayer, 8 kinds of vegetable seeds and other farm tools. Further, a series of technical trainings was also conducted by the resident registered Agriculturist of DAR Guimaras, Mr. Jonathan Yanguas with the supervision of Ms. Grace Gamarcha, the DAR Provincial Office Buhay sa Gulay Project coordinator.

The MARBA or the Maabay ARBs Association is one of the newest organizations registered only last year. It has 25 members, and most of this are  farmer beneficiaries in the said barangay. Its chairman, Mr. Liberato Gange, in his message  during the project launching, has expressed his gratitude to the DAR since they are already able to receive support services like trainings and this Buhay sa Gulay Project.
