DAR capacitates its information officers on media relations

TUGUEGARAO CITY – The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) through the Office of the Undersecretary for Special Concerns and External Affairs and Communications Operations (OSC-EACO) conducted a two-day Capacity Building Workshop on Public and Media Relations for Regional and Provincial Information Officers held on November 20-21, 2023 at the University Hotel, UP Diliman, Quezon City.

Atty. Marilyn B. Barua-Yap, Undersecretary-OSC-EACO said that there is a need to capacitate the Information Officers in order for them to effectively and efficiently communicate with our stakeholders.

“For now, this is the last training to be conducted this year.  By next year we hope to have another set of trainings to be conducted twice a year. Priority shall be given to the RIOs/PIOs followed by the Public Information Division (former PAMRS)”, she added.

Mark Lester M. Elchico, Director-Public Relations of University of Los Baños, served as the Resource Person. He discussed on the various topics on media relations: principles and strategies of public and media, stakeholder engagement and communication, crisis communication and reputation management.

During the workshop proper, the participants shared their best practices on online and emerging media, external relations and brand management, internal communications and special events, content production and publication and creative media production. A mock press conference was also conducted.

 The two-day training workshop was attended by the Regional and Provincial Information Officers from CAR, Regions I-III, IVA, IVB and V.
