Camsur farmers earn P74K from SM’s Sunday market

Six farmer organizations assisted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Camarines Sur participated in the SM Sunday Market. The best-selling items were the well-milled rice (red, brown, black, and glutinous rice), vegetables, and eggs.

Six farmer organizations assisted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Camarines Sur, earned P74,457.65 in sales through their participation in the SM Sunday Market.

DAR Regional Director Reuben Theodore C. Sindac said the SM Sunday Market which started on February 18, was a collaboration between the DAR and SM Malls. This collaboration grants agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (ARBOs) the opportunity to sell their fresh produce directly to consumers in three SM Malls across the Bicol region.

“Our partnership with SM Malls aims to empower farmers and enhance their livelihood by providing wider market access. This is one of DAR’s interventions to help farmers earn additional income,” Sindac said.

Sindac said the farmers sold their newly harvested farm produce directly to consumers at fair-trade prices, ensuring fresh, safe, and nutritious products. The best-selling items were the well-milled rice (red, brown, black, and glutinous rice), vegetables, and eggs.

Every Sunday since February 18, six (6) ARBOs have participated and sold their products at the weekly market, namely: Labawon Agrarian Reform Upland Farmers Association, (LARUFA), Inc., Cabugao Agrarian Reform Cooperative (CARC), DRUFA, Inc. (Divino Rostro Upland Farmers Settlers Association), San Antonio Farmers Irrigators Multipurpose Cooperative (SAFIMCO), San Vicente Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (SVARBA), Inc., and Pecuaria Development Cooperative (PDC).

Sindac said the DAR helps ARBOs market their products through various marketing activities, including connecting the farmers with institutional buyers and conducting trade fairs and “tiangge.”

“The DAR-SM Malls partnership has helped boost the morale of farmers’ organizations to believe in themselves. It has motivated them to plant more, and they look forward to selling their fresh produce in the next opportunity that comes,” said Sindac.

Sinabi ni DAR Regional Director Reuben Theodore C. Sindac na ang SM Sunday Market na nagsimula noong Pebrero 18, ay isang kolaborasyon ng DAR at ng SM Malls. Ang pagtutulungang ito ay nagbibigay ng pagkakataon sa mga agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (ARBO) na ibenta ang kanilang mga sariwang ani nang direkta sa mga mamimili sa tatlong SM Mall sa buong rehiyon ng Bicol.

“Layunin ng aming partnership sa SM Malls ay bigyang kapangyarihan ang mga magsasaka at ayusin ang kanilang kabuhayan sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng mas malawak na merkado. Isa ito sa mga interbensyon ng DAR para matulungan ang mga magsasaka na magkaroon ng karagdagang kita,” ani Sindac.

Sinabi ni Sindac na nagtinda ang mga magsasaka ng kanilang mga ani nang direkta sa mga mamimili sa patas na presyo, may katiyakan na sariwa, ligtas, at masustansya ang kanilang mga produkto. Ang pinakamabenta ay ang bigas (pula, brown, itim, at malagkit na bigas), gulay, at itlog.

Tuwing Linggo simula Pebrero 18, anim (6) na ARBO ang lumahok at nagbenta ng kanilang mga produkto sa lingguhang pamilihan, ito ay ang: Labawon Agrarian Reform Upland Farmers Association, (LARUFA), Inc., Cabugao Agrarian Reform Cooperative (CARC), DRUFA, Inc. Sinabi ni Sindac na tinutulungan ng DAR ang mga ARBO na ibenta ang kanilang mga produkto sa pamamagitan ng iba't ibang aktibidad sa pamilihan, kabilang na ang pagkonekta sa mga magsasaka sa mga institusyonal na mamimili at pagsasagawa ng mga trade fair at "tiangge."

“Nakatulong ang partnership ng DAR-SM Malls na palakasin ang moral ng mga organisasyon ng mga magsasaka upang maniwala sa kanilang sarili. Ito ay nag-udyok sa kanila na magtanim ng higit pa, at inaasahan nilang makapag-bentang muli ng kanilang mga sariwang ani sa susunod na pagkakataong darating,” ani Sindac.
