23 ARBOs form Cooperative Union in Cagayan

“What makes a union successful?” A union is an organization that takes people’s dreams and gets people to understand that, if they work together, they can achieve those dreams and that is how The Cagayan Cooperative Union was formed.

It is initially organized and composed of 23 Cagayan-based Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries’ Organizations (ARBOs) namely Integrated Farmers’ Cooperative of Tuguegarao City; Bugnay Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative; SVK Marketing Cooperative; and San Juan Marketing Cooperative of Tuao; Lifted Life Multipurpose Cooperative and Evergreen Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative of Baggao; Mabuhay Agri-Crop Multipurpose Cooperative of Piat; Bantay Farmers Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative of Solana; Malulani Agrarian Reform Community Multipurpose Cooperative and Northern Sto. It is the first and only cooperative union in the province of Cagayan. The purpose of this unification is to represent its member organizations; to acquire, analyze and disseminate, economic, statistical and other information relating to its members and all types of cooperatives within its area of operation; to sponsor studies in the economic, legal, financial, social and other phases of cooperation and publish the results thereof; to promote the knowledge of cooperative principles and practices; to develop the cooperative movement in their respective jurisdiction; to conduct mandatory training to cooperatives as an accredited training provider; to assist the national and local government units in development activities within their jurisdiction; to act as conciliator or mediator in cooperative disputes of their members; to assist members in the submission and monitoring of the Philippine Cooperative Authority and other government and regulatory bodies; and to do and perform such other non-business activities as may be necessary to attain the foregoing objectives.

The Certificate of Compliance was issued by the Cooperative Development Authority Region II last January 13, 2023.

The union was very grateful for the support of PARPO II Val M. Cristobal, OIC-CARPO PBDD Christian D.  Sales and ARPO II Febie G. Jose of DAR provincial office of Cagayan who initiated and facilitated their bylaws and other requirements for acquiring the union’s certificate.

The DAR provincial office of Cagayan and Batanes is hoping for more ARBOs and Unions to form in the future generation for the betterment of the farmers and its communities.
